Roelfsema F et al. - Obese women exhibit enhanced ACTH and cortisol 24-hour production compared with lean controls. The amplified ACTH drive is accompanied by decreased secretory regularity and diminished forward coupling between ACTH and cortisol. In addition, the potency of ACTH is decreased in obesity.
