Drozd VM et al. - In a study to assess the ultrasound (US) features of papillary thyroid carcinoma in pts exposed to Chernobyl fallouts, it appears that irregular nodule margins, a usual sign of malignancy, are less useful in detecting thyroid cancers in radiation-exposed pts with tumors <10 mm. Thyroid cancers that are detected after longer latent periods display less of the US features characteristic of a malignant process, while benign US features are observed more frequently.
