Rider LG et al. - Short stature is common in patients with JIA, particularly in those treated with high-dose, long-term corticosteroids: long-term glucocorticoid therapy is associated with reduced adult height in up to 87% of patients with systemic JIA. Patients with JIA and associated growth impairment are deficient in IGF1; this deficiency is probably mediated by interleukin 6 in systemic JIA and by tumor necrosis factor in polyarticular JIA, but also possibly by corticosteroid treatment.
