Sounart A - As healthcare costs continue to rise and landfills overflow with medical waste, some hospitals are finding a way to solve two problems with one solution, by reprocessing some of their single-use labeled medical devices. Medical device reprocessing for single-use devices was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2000 with strict guidelines for sterilization. At the time there was little research done on contamination or failure rates.
