Bauer M et al. – The authors depict the course of disease in a 69–year old man after a splenectomy. He presented with acute dyspnea and a reduced general condition to the emergency room. Based on the leading clinical sign of an arterial pulmonary embolism, appropriate diagnostics and therapies were initiated; however, the patient developed the complete clinical picture of a fulminant OPSI syndrome within a few hours.
