Froh S – Selective digestive tract decontamination and selective oropharyngeal decontamination are important preventive measures in intensive care patients to avoid endogenous infections. Microorganisms causing these infections are carried in both the oropharynx and digestive tract and are responsible for the development of pneumonia and sepsis, which can be acquired in intensive care units. SDD and SOD consist of intravenous antibiotic medication and topical application of antibiotics.
