Kümpers P et al. - Angiopoietin-2, the antagonistic ligand of the endothelial-specific Tie2 receptor, has been identified as a central mediator of endothelial activation in experimental sepsis. The concentration of angiopoietin-2 within the circulation is closely related to progressive organ dysfunction and mortality in critically ill patients.
