Graf J et al. - The modern intensive care unit constitutes what psychologists have termed a “cognitively complex environment”. Considering the many organizational tasks and responsibilities related to patient care, verbal and written communication are of utmost importance for all areas in intensive care. Difficulties with such communication, i.e. misunderstandings or failure to communicate at all, constitute a relevant shortcoming in our daily routine.
