Decompensation of a clozapine-induced diabetes mellitus
Intensivmedizin und Notfallmedizin, 04/27/09
Sailer D et al. - Due to a psychotic disturbance, the patient had been treated with clozapine for about two years. A rare complication of this treatment is the development of diabetes mellitus. After changing to another neuroleptica, the need for insulin decreased to zero within four days. Because of congruence with other described cases, a direct dependence between treatment with clozapine and the induction of the diabetes can probably be expected.
