Levin PD et al. - Failed glucose control is very common in long-stay ICU patients, and suggests that nonprotocolized treatment strategies for hyperglycemia are inadequate. The presence of diabetes, severity of illness, common ICU interventions, and length of stay were the main risk factors for poor glucose control.
