LeBlanc C et al. - The 3 most common toxic alcohol ingestions include ethylene glycol, methanol, and isopropanol. None of these parent compounds is very toxic; they cause inebriation and a serum osmolar gap soon after ingestion. As they are metabolized, however, the osmolar gap decreases and a metabolic acidosis develops.
