Varon J et al. - Although CAM has been in use for millennia, the widespread use of herbal compounds in the prevention and treatment of many illnesses, such as sepsis and septic shock, remains in its infancy. Randomized controlled trials are almost impossible to be performed in Western civilizations because of strict institutional review boards that will not allow such comparisons.
