The Senate confirmed Nicole Lurie, M.D., as the Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) assistant secretary for preparedness and response. HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said Lurie's knowledge and expertise would be "essential" to the department as it continues "to develop and implement an action plan for a coordinated national response to the H1N1 virus."
