Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha is a mediator of articular inflammation in chronic inflammatory diseases. Golimumab is a human monoclonal antibody that binds to human TNF-alpha, thus inhibiting its activity. Golimumab was approved on April 2009, for use alone or in combination with methotrexate for the treatment of adult patients with active psoriatic arthritis, for use in combination with methotrexate for the treatment of adult patients with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis, and for the treatment of adult patients with active ankylosing spondylitis.
