Periodontitis as a Risk Factor for Pre-Eclampsia
Journal of Periodontology, 02/13/2012  Exclusive author commentary

Silva GM et al. – The multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that, after adjustment for other risk factors, periodontitis remained an independent risk factor for pre–eclampsia. The results suggest that within the studied population, periodontitis was a risk factor for pre–eclampsia.

Genivaldo Moura da Silva (02/20/2012) comments:
In this study, the sample size was properly estimated (in fact, this is the largest sample size of all case-control studies ever conducted), there was a careful selection of potential confounders based on the literature and the criteria chosen to define periodontitis prioritized specificity. Not all of the previous studies addressed these three points simultaneously. we would like to say how grateful we are for this opportunity to publish our article. 02/20/2012 Genivaldo Moura
