Juodzbalys G et al. – This paper shows evidence that this newly developed complex esthetic index, that incorporates both the implant restoration as well as adjacent soft and hard tissue parameters, is a reproducible tool for scoring anterior implant esthetics predictably. However, prospective clinical trials involving examiners with different training backgrounds are needed to further validate the long–term stability of this index.

Implant rehabilitation is no longer just a vehicle to restore lost masticatory and phonetic function; it has become an integral part of modern implant dentistry in achieving structural and esthetic pleasing outcomes. This is the reason why scientists are seeking to create optimal esthetic result rating index . The main principle of esthetic result evaluation is that the implant-supported restoration should be in symmetry and harmony with the adjacent dentition. Furthermore we decided that esthetic index should have prognostic value that includes both soft and hard tissues. We identified this index as complex esthetic index (CEI). Let’s hope new prognostic index will help clinicians and scientists to evaluate esthetic result in their practical work and scientific investigations.
