Kardesler L et al. – Within the limits of the study, type 2 diabetic chronic periodontitis patients may exhibit similar clinical periodontal improvements with their systemically healthy counterparts. Initial periodontal treatment appears to improve glycemic control in poorly–controlled diabetics. Decreases in IL–6, TNF–alpha CRP, leptin and an increase in adiponectin levels following periodontal therapy may be a function of glycemic control in type 2 diabetics.
