Zhou W et al. – The incidence of retrograde peri–implantitis may reduce by increasing the distance between the implant and adjacent tooth, and/or the duration from endodontically treated adjacent tooth–to–implant placement. Although preliminary, these data might orient the practitioner to avoid retrograde peri–implantitis.

Some cases of retrograde peri-implantitis arise from adjacent natural teeth that have peri-radicular infection, accompanied by an increasing number of oral implants. The present study was designed to investigate the incidence of retrograde peri-implantitis from adjacent teeth with endodontic treatment. The incidence of retrograde peri-implantitis may reduce by increasing the distance between the implant and adjacent tooth, and/or the duration from endodontically treated adjacent tooth to implant placement. We are in the full conviction that this study has important implications to avoid the retrograde peri-implantitis.
