Zirconium dioxide implant abutments for posterior single tooth replacement – First results

Nothdurft FP et al. – Prefabricated implant abutments made of zirconium dioxide Y–TZP (yttria stabilized polycrystalline tetragonal zirconia) have proved their value in the aesthetically demanding anterior region and may be useful also for premolar and molar replacement because of their obvious positive impact on the health of periimplant soft tissue. After six months in function, no mechanical failure was registered in any of the all–ceramic abutments. On clinical investigation the periimplant soft tissues were largely healthy and devoid of inflammation.
