Relationship between general hygiene behaviours and oral hygiene behaviours in Iranian adolescents
European Journal of Oral Sciences, 07/17/09
Dorri M et al. – There was a positive association between general hygiene and oral hygiene behaviours among Iranian adolescents. This association has important applications for planning health and hygiene–promoting programmes.
Mojtaba Dorri, 07/22/09
| Poor personal hygiene is one of the 10 leading behavioural risk factors contributing to the global burden of diseases. It is important to promote optimal hygiene behaviours because these are cost-effective ways of reducing and preventing diseases. The present study found a positive association between general hygiene behaviours and oral hygiene behaviours among Iranian adolescents. This association has important implications for planning health and hygiene-promoting programmes. Strategies to promote oral hygiene are not usually carried out jointly with other health personnel. As all hygiene behaviours are based upon similar motivations and are inter-related, it is rational for personnel promoting hygiene to collaborate to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of their health-promotion efforts. |
