Kleinman ER et al. - The volume of primary dental care provided for older people has been increasing at a rate which exceeds population growth, but remains low. Planners and commissioners should urgently review the provision of dental care of older people to ensure that their oral health needs are being met particularly in relation to dentures and domiciliary care.

Access to dental care is high on the agenda for the National Health Service and government with the recent publication of the Steele Review. It is important that access to high quality healthcare is provided for older people to address their oral health needs as part of future NHS plans.
