Lye KW et al. - With the use of conventional orthognathic surgical techniques, it is possible to expand the posterior airway. In fact, there is strong evidence in the literature to support maxillomandibular advancement as one of the most efficacious surgical procedures for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). There are complications associated with this procedure but these are minor when compared with the risk of inadequately treated OSA.
