The effect of vibration on pain during local anaesthesia injections
Australian Dental Journal, 06/01/09
Nanitsos E et al. - The results suggest that vibration can be used to decrease pain during dental local anaesthetic administration.
Christopher Peck, 06/01/09
| Administering local anaesthesia and perfroming dental procedures in and around the oral and facial region can be particulalry painful. This study demonstrates that the use of a simple and inexpensive hand-held vibrating massager placed against the face during intraoral local anaesthetic injections significantly decreased pain intensity when compared to injections without the use of the massager. These results suggest patient comfort can be enhanced easily for many outpatient painful dental and medical procedures. |
