Yu L et al. - The findings show that metronidazole rapidly enters human gingival fibroblasts via simple diffusion. Metronidazole easily reaches the minimal inhibitory concentration in fibroblasts and gingiva. Given the fact that intracellular concentrations of metronidazole in other tissues and cells are also close to the plasma level, the authors speculate that in other tissues and cells as well, metronidazole enters via simple diffusion.
