Association between systemic neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin and anemia, relative hypochromia, and inflammation in chronic systolic heart failure

Congestive Heart Failure, 04/24/2012

Higher plasma NGAL levels were associated with presence of anemia independent of estimated glomerular filtration rate, plasma high–sensitivity C–reactive protein, and myeloperoxidase levels (odds ratio, 2.38; 95% confidence interval, 1.02–6.20; P=.045). Hence, systemic NGAL levels are independently associated with indices of anemia.
