Middle East Journal of Anesthesiology, 10/14/09
Khan ZH et al. – DMV continues to be a major cause of morbidity and mortality with an increased incidence of almost 5%. Five preoperative risk factors (age older than 65 yr, body mass index >= 26 kg/m^2, presence of a beard, lack of teeth and history of snoring), have been considered to be independently associated with DMV. It is suggested that a combination of ULBT, past history of snoring and neck circumference be utilized in the prediction of DMV as these composite variables yielded the best results.
