Anaesthetic Management in a Case of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Journal of Anaesthesiology Clinical Pharmacology, 10/15/09
Sekhar KC et al. – Allergic reactions are seen more commonly in persons with CFS than the general population. For this reason, histamine–releasing anaesthetic agents (such as pentothal sodium, etomidate) and muscle relaxants (curare, atracurium and mivacurium) are best avoided. Propofol, midazolam, nitrous oxide and fentanyl are generally well–tolerated. Most CFS patients are also extremely sensitive to sedative medications like benzodiazepines, antihistamines, and psychotropics.
