Kapoor PM et al. - TEE should be used in all OPCABs to ensure proper diagnosis and make sure no other lesions have been missed, to ensure that the procedure was successful and to aid in prompt diagnosis and management of hemodynamic instability and myocardial ischemia. The benefits far outweigh the risks, and it is likely that TEE will be shown to improve outcome in patients undergoing on- and off-pump CABG because it allows for more rapid and accurate diagnosis of the causes of hemodynamic instability and therefore, more rapid and accurate treatment.
