Colloid-induced kidney injury: experimental evidence may help to understand mechanisms
Critical Care, 04/07/09
Schortgen F et al. - Fluid management represents a basic treatment and a considerable number of patients are exposed to plasma volume expanders. Recent experiments and clinical works have demonstrated the renal toxicity of colloids, particularly hydroxyethylstarches. The precise mechanisms of colloid induced kidney injury remain to be fully elucidated.
