Mori T et al. – Patients with extrinsic AD have an impaired barrier, which increases the pre–existing pruritus but rather decreases sensitivity to external stimuli. In contrast, patients with intrinsic AD retain a normal barrier function and sensory reactivity to external pruritic stimuli.
