Bakkeheim E et al. – Maternal IgG anti–A/–B titres contribute to the prediction of risk of severe hyperbilirubinaemia in ABO–incompatible neonates, in addition to blood–grouping and direct antiglobulin–testing, especially following early discharge after delivery.

The increasing prevalence of kernicterus after early discharge, in the developed world, makes early detection of severe hyperbilirubinemia essential. Maternal IgG anti-A and -B titres are increased in hemolytic disesase ot the newborn due to ABO-incompatibility. This article suggest that the measurement of these antititers may help detect newborns in risk of severe hyperbilirubinemia or kernicterus at an early stage
