Maternal IgG anti-A and anti-B titres predict outcome in ABO-incompatibility in the neonate
Acta Pediatrica, 08/25/09
Bakkeheim E et al. – Maternal IgG anti–A/–B titres contribute to the prediction of risk of severe hyperbilirubinaemia in ABO–incompatible neonates, in addition to blood–grouping and direct antiglobulin–testing, especially following early discharge after delivery.
Egil Bakkeheim, 08/27/09
| The increasing prevalence of kernicterus after early discharge, in the developed world, makes early detection of severe hyperbilirubinemia essential. Maternal IgG anti-A and -B titres are increased in hemolytic disesase ot the newborn due to ABO-incompatibility. This article suggest that the measurement of these antititers may help detect newborns in risk of severe hyperbilirubinemia or kernicterus at an early stage |
