Wilms H et al. - The results show that microglia are target cells for erythropoietin which possesses mitogenic, but not anti-inflammatory effects on microglia. Therefore, the well-documented neuroprotective effects of erythropoietin could not be ascribed to an anti-inflammatory effect on microglia.
