Rauch I et al. - Previously, alpha-MSH, a 13-amino acid neuropeptide and the tripeptide alpha-MSH have been shown to possess potent antimicrobial properties. The authors performed microplate based growth inhibition assays on C. albicans with alpha-MSH, but could not observe any growth inhibiting effect. Repeating the originally published assay with different C. albicans strains, authors detected a mild growth inhibiting effect of 100 micro M alpha-MSH, but again no effect of alpha-MSH.
