The objective of the study was to determine the most accurate metabolic syndrome (MS) definition among the definitions proposed by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), the Third Report of the National Cholesterol Education Program Expert Panel on Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Cholesterol in Adults (Adult Treatment Panel III [ATPIII]), and the World Health Organization (WHO) and to evaluate the cutoff point of waist circumference using the IDF definition for optimally defining MS in the Chinese population
