Effect of umbilical vein blood flow on perinatal outcome of fetuses with lean and/or hypo-coiled umbilical cord
Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics, 11/09/09
Behery MME et al. – Fetuses with lean and/or hypo–coiled umbilical cord showed a noticeable decrease in UV blood flow of sufficient magnitude that could affect fetal growth, and this could explain the higher prevalence of fetal intrapartum complications in growth–restricted fetuses.
Manal M. El behery, 11/09/09
| Since the umbilical cord area is easy to measure and nomograms are now available, and since Doppler studies of the umbilical vein and both arteries, added an additional 8–9 min to the fetal anatomical survey. we recommend that measurement of umbilical cord area and umbilical vein blood flow quantification to be part of a routine ultrasound evaluation as it help in detecting those fetuses who will have an adverse perinatal outcome . |
