McAlindon, T.E., et al. - Osteoarthritis is a widespread musculoskeletal disease that is in desperate need of a cure. Although some authors strongly advocate the use of dietary supplements such as chondroitin on the basis of (early) clinical trial results, others have been uncertain about its likely efficacy. Two serious problems undermine the credibility of chondroitin for osteoarthritis; firstly, the absence of a plausible biological mechanism and, secondly, the prominent involvement of industry in the clinical trials that show positive outcomes
