Cina SJ et al. – Depression is strongly linked to suicide and lymphocytic thyroiditis may be a cause of depression. Based on this study, however, the presence of lymphocytic thyroiditis cannot be used as a histologic adjunct to discriminate between suicide and accident in problematic cases. This diagnosis is rendered with essentially equal frequency in suicide victims versus controls.
